Music for Adults

SYNERGY is for
every age.

Music schools are too often marketed as though they exist only for children. SYNERGY has always believed otherwise. Some of the most rewarding journeys we've been part of have belonged to adults โ€” people who picked up an instrument for the first time at 50, or finally came back to the piano they walked away from at 16.

Adult learners bring something children often don't: genuine motivation. You're here because you want to be. Our teachers understand that, and they teach accordingly โ€” with patience, flexibility, and a deep respect for the goals you set for yourself.

Whether you want to work toward RCM credentials, write your own music, play songs you love with no exams in sight, or perform at one of our recitals โ€” we have a path for you.

Every Adult Has a Different Story

Whatever brought you here โ€” welcome.

๐ŸŒฑ
Complete Beginners
You've always wanted to learn. Maybe you never had the chance, or life kept getting in the way. There's no better time than now โ€” and our teachers love working with adults who are starting from scratch. No judgement, no rush, just good teaching.
๐Ÿ”„
Returning Players
You played as a child and walked away. Muscle memory is real โ€” it comes back faster than you think. Our teachers are experienced at picking up where students left off and rebuilding the joy that may have got lost along the way.
๐Ÿ†
Serious Students
Adults pursuing RCM credentials โ€” including those working toward their ARCT โ€” are very welcome. We've had adult students achieve advanced levels after starting with us. Age is no obstacle to serious musical study.
๐Ÿ˜Š
Just for Enjoyment
No exams. No recitals. Just the music you love, played the way you want. Our just-for-fun path is one of the most popular for adult students โ€” a weekly hour that belongs entirely to you.
โœ๏ธ
Composers & Creators
Some of our adult students come with their own ideas โ€” melodies in their head they've never been able to get on paper. Our teachers can help you develop composition skills and theory knowledge to bring those ideas to life.
๐ŸŒฟ
Seniors & Retirees
Learning music later in life is one of the most rewarding things you can do โ€” for your mind, your creativity, and your wellbeing. We've had seniors perform their first recital after joining us. It's never too late.

For Those Who Want to Perform

Adults are welcome at every event.

Performances aren't just for kids. Adult students participate fully in SYNERGY's performance calendar โ€” and often say it becomes one of the highlights of their year. There's no pressure to participate, but the option is always there.

๐ŸŽ„
November / Early December
Annual Concert
Students of all ages perform together in our flagship year-end concert. Many adult students find performing in a real concert setting โ€” often for the first time โ€” to be a profound experience.
๐ŸŒธ
March / April
Spring Recital
A mid-year performance opportunity. A good milestone for newer adult students who want to perform before the year-end concert, or for those preparing festival pieces.
๐Ÿ†
Spring & July
SynergyFest & Festival of Stars
Our adjudicated two-part festival. Students submit a video performance for SynergyFest and receive written feedback and a trophy. Top performers are invited to the live Festival of Stars in July, where scholarship awards are presented.
๐ŸŽฅ
At Least Once a Year
Recording Week
Students perform a prepared piece in our grand piano room โ€” set up with special lighting and quality cameras โ€” during their regular lesson time. Recordings are shared (with permission) on our YouTube channel. Adults love this one.
Annual Composition Competition

Write your own music.

Each year SYNERGY holds a Composition Competition โ€” open to all students across all instruments. Adult students in particular often find composition to be one of the most rewarding parts of their musical journey: a chance to create something entirely their own.

Students submit an original written score that meets the specific criteria for their level. All entries are adjudicated, and prizes and recognition are awarded. It's a genuine creative achievement โ€” and one of the most unique things SYNERGY offers.

๐Ÿ“…

Common Questions

Adult lessons FAQs.

Am I too old to start music lessons?+
Not at all. We've taught adults of all ages โ€” from their 20s to their 80s โ€” and some of the most rewarding journeys we've been part of have belonged to people who started later in life. Adults often progress quickly because their motivation is genuine. There is no upper age limit, and there is no such thing as starting too late.
Do I have to do exams or perform in recitals?+
Absolutely not. Many of our adult students prefer to learn without any exam or performance pressure โ€” and that is completely fine. Our just-for-fun path and curriculum-without-pressure path are both popular choices. If you do want to pursue exams or perform at some point, that door is always open too.
I played as a child and want to return. Where do I start?+
This is one of the most common situations we see โ€” and one of the most satisfying to teach. Muscle memory is real, and things come back faster than most people expect. Just let us know your background when you register or call us, and we'll place you at the right level and find the right teacher for where you are now.
What times are available for adult lessons?+
We offer weekday daytime slots at a discounted rate โ€” great for retirees, remote workers, and anyone with a flexible schedule. Evening slots are available Monday through Friday and Saturdays for those who work during the day. Online lessons are available at any time that suits your teacher's schedule.
Can adults really achieve advanced RCM levels?+
Yes โ€” and we've seen it happen. Adults who are motivated and consistent can absolutely achieve advanced RCM levels, including ARCT. It may take longer than a child who starts at age 5, but adults often compensate with greater focus, discipline, and genuine desire. The right teacher and the right program make all the difference.
What is the Composition Competition?+
Our annual Composition Competition is open to all SYNERGY students โ€” including adults. Students submit an original written score meeting the criteria for their level, and entries are adjudicated with prizes and recognition awarded. When we receive enough submissions, the compositions are compiled and published as a book on Amazon. It's a genuine creative achievement and something adult students in particular find deeply meaningful.
Is a trial available?+
Yes โ€” our trial program runs for 4 weeks. It's enough time to meet your teacher, find your footing, and decide whether the program is right for you. Music trial lessons start from $110. No commitment or contract required after the trial.
